Hailing from Birmingham, International recording artist, musician and songwriter Namywa, returns with her new single ‘Sober’ set to be released on July 15th.

Namywa accompanied by her live band has supported the likes of Jacob Banks, Etta Bond, Gregory Porter, Public Enemy, Brian Jackson, The Floacist, Jimmy Cliff, Teedra Moses, and played ahead of Snarky Puppy at Cheltenham Jazz Festival.

Loved by fans from all over the West Midlands, Namywa has been nominated for Best Solo Female 2020 in the same category as formidable artists Lady Leshurr and Ruby Tuner.

Speaking on the inspiration behind ‘Sober’ she tells us: “Sober is that defining moment when you realize you don't need your side of the story told. I know a lot of people's stories go untold and I hope this song helps them to find peace in knowing they are worth it and that they are sober from the dark side of love.”

Namywa’s music is inspired by artists like Amy Winehouse, Diana Gorden, Yebba, Paloma Faith, Lauryn Hill, and Jill Scott.

Namywa is an artist whose approach to her music and lyrics is regularly described as “fearless”. Using life as a muse she writes songs that deliver on true emotions, surprising listeners with a distinctive voice and aura way beyond her years, blending genres of R&B, Soul, Jazz, and Pop music.

In the live setting, she is quite simply a force of nature, with her striking styling and accomplished stagecraft, making her the focal point of an exciting all-female band of musicians.

Outside of her music career, Namywa runs Girl Grind UK, a CIC (Community Interest Company) she founded out of a deep desire to support Black and Asian women, girls and non-binary people at crucial stages in their development and help them along their personal and professional path. The company is part-funded by charity Youth Music’s incubator programme, an initiative backed by YouTube.

Fans have long awaited the release of new music from this heartfelt songwriter. Armed with a voice that stops people in their tracks & with backing from The MOBO Awards & Help Musicians UK, 2022 promises great things from Namywa & new music for fans to live with. Propelling her from an undiscovered gem into the pantheon of modern eclectic greats.
